Terry March - President

During a career in local government waste services Terry moved from Management Services to the technical side of the business and eventually into the operational side where he managed the full spectrum of waste and cleansing services for a major City.

Seeking fresh challenges Terry established his own waste management consultancy and has had a rewarding career using his knowledge and expertise to help shape the constant changes which have become the norm.  He has been able to repay the experiences gained by concentrating much of his efforts into support for the new generation of waste and resource managers. 

Terry has been Secretary of the South West Centre for over 20 years; a General Councillor since 1987 and has been heavily involved with Institution affairs. He was the first Chairman of the Education Training & Membership Committee and sits on the Executive Committee.

Terry will bring to the role of President a passionate belief and support for the new generation of waste and resource practitioners who have so much to offer an industry where the rate of change is accelerating at an unprecedented pace. He will use his Presidential Year to support and inspire a link between all of the generations in a way that embraces everyone’s desires for an exciting future and the continued rise of the professional Waste Manager.

Barry Dennis - Senior Vice President

Barry joined the Institution in the early seventies and has worked in the Waste Management Industry since 1964.
 
He joined the Deards group of companies when he left school and progressed to the main board and was responsible for the subsidiary involved in waste management. He has been involved in all aspects of the industry from operating landfills and incinerators to a large vehicle fleet involved in waste collection for both the public and private sectors.

He is a director and trustee of Wamitab and is also its treasurer. He also holds other directorships of companies involved in the waste and recycling sector.
 
In his spare time he played senior amateur soccer and represented the FA English Schools, he is a keen golfer and a playing member of the MCC.  He is married to Jan and they have 2 sons. Barry also has 3 daughters and four grandchildren.

He is now Deputy Chief Executive of the Environmental Services Association (ESA), which is the trade body that represents the waste management, recycling and secondary resources industry here in the UK.

He has been a General councilor for many years and is Chairman of the Finance committee. He has been   Chairman of the London and Southern Counties centre. He is also a director of IWM Business Services.

He worked very closely with Government in the late 60's helping write legislation controlling the skip hire industry. This now appears in the Highways Act.

Hugh Hoather - Immediate Past President

I have been actively involved in the waste industry in both the public and private sector for over 30 years. From 1983 to 1991 I was the County Waste Disposal Officer for Cheshire County Council during which time I was responsible for policy planning, operations and regulatory control of the industry. In 1991 I took up the role of Managing Director of 3C Waste, the company created by the County Council, and over the following 7 years developed it into a significant regional disposal company with considerable assets and contracts. When the company was sold in 1998 I remained in the private sector as a director of my own waste management company.

Having joined CIWM in 1972, I was made a Fellow in 1991 and have served continuously as a Centre Councillor in the North West since 1983. For a number of years I have been a member of the Fellows Assessment Panel. In January 2005 I was elected to serve on the General Council.

I wish to devote more time to helping the Institution to strengthen its position nationally and internationally as the leading professional body for wastes and resource management, and although I now have the opportunity to do this as a member of the Presidential Team, gaining membership of the Executive Committee will allow me to participate actively in policy formation and stewardship of the Institution.
